Horses for Adoption

Dear Friends,
I am contacting you about some great horses available for adoption through
Horse Haven Montana, Some of you have contacted us about a certain type of horse that you might be looking for, so I am sending you an updated list of those currently available and in need of homes.

Current List of Adoptable Horses

1. Trail Horses: Two (2) Registered Tennessee Walking Horses: 21 year old mare and 23 year old gelding – Both are healthy, sound, up to date on all veterinary needs. Would like to keep them together – they have no known issues or problems but haven’t been ridden in a few years so they might need a tune up. They are very good looking, healthy and with nice pedigrees. The mare is sorrel/red and was a great trail horse, but in more recent years, a broodmare, has not been ridden in several years but is very gentle, sweet and easy going. She is about 15.1. The gelding was a pack and dude horse, excellent mountain horse, about 16H - $250/each adoption fee. VERY NICE HORSES!

2. Trail, Pack or Pasture: Three (3) Registered Tennessee Walking Horses who can be adopted individually: 26 year old gelding, good for gentle trail rides, good pasture mate, used primarily as a packer but also trail-ridden over the years – he is in good health and good shape. Good looking horse! Owner says not completely bomb proof as he might turn quickly but if you know how to ride moderately well, he should be a very enjoyable horse. Lovely bay with a white strip about 15.1H. The second gelding is a stout buckskin and would make a good outfitter’s type of horse. Lots of mountain experience. Bucky has been ridden into the backcountry. He has been packed (no meat), and he has led the string on occasion. He is a real charmer. His one flaw is his propensity to speed up on his own without warning. He will require a rider who is demanding, and constantly alert (according to the owner). He is an easy keeper. He could work into an outfitter's string quite nicely. He is easy to work with on the ground. (shoeing, loading, etc...) Bucky will have all his shots. The third gelding is a a gorgeous 8 year old, black and white tobiano, has been ridden on trails, he has had over 30 days+ training with professional trainers but needs more experience to build his confidence. He is gorgeous and sweet – again, needs more time in the saddle and more exposure. Owner says he is terrified of llamas but most of our own personal horses have been afraid of llamas until they were intensely exposed and lived with them so this should not be an issue if you are aware of what is required. $250/each, can be adopted individually. PHOTOS AVAILABLE

3. 27 year old child’s horse (mare). This lovely gal was a trail and prior to that, a lesson horse as we were told but can only be ridden for short periods of time or she may become lame. She is sweet, quiet, gentle, simply great for a child to learn on or from but for light riding. PHOTOS COMING. $150 Adoption Fee.

4. 27 year old gelding, “healthy as a horse,” we are told by the owner. Starbucks we are told was trained English but we are not sure about this – we know that light riding on the trails with a not too heavy person will be ideal for him. He seems to be sound, gentle, just a nice horse. He is dark bay and about 15H, stoutly built, nice coat in winter but slicks out to a very pretty black with a white start. PHOTOS AVAILABLE. $175 Adoption fee.

5. Mare - Mid 20s – sweet, gentle, sweet, sweet, easygoing mare – perfect for a child or lightweight, not too large beginner. Great temperament. She is currently being fostered with us and she is a lovely sorrel. Adoption Fee: $200

6.Two (2) Thoroughbred Geldings: One is 17H, easy going, extensively trained, would make a wonderful youth, novice, light trail riding type of horse – no collection, no jumping. This gelding had an injury during novice eventing but is great for light trail riding. Wonderful to be around, beautiful pedigree, gorgeous bay. SWEET horse! He is only 15 years old so he has plenty of years ahead of him. This is a fantastic horse for someone who just wants to do light trail riding and likes a big gelding. $750 Adoption Fee.

The other TB gelding is very well trained, sound, injury free English or Western horse. I believe he was trained English but could go western – grew up in a city but has been at a ranch for R&R since last April. He’s great in the arena and knows exactly what to do – could do low level jumping as well. 16H and lightly built. A sweet, beautiful horse. Adoption Fee is: $950

7. Registered Medicine Hat Paint Filly – 2 years old – extensively trained in ground work, ready to be started. Gorgeous tobiano, sweet, gentle temperament, loves people, gets along with anyone. She will make a great trail, show or ranch horse. Photos Available. $850 Adoption Fee.

Pet Quote

"The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself, too."
